This year is off to a slow, cool start. Here in Sonoma we picked up another 2.5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. This marks the most rain we have received in late March/early April since 2006. Back in 2006 we had jungle vines and difficulties farming as a result. I’m not expecting the same this vintage; 2010 is cooler than 2006 was, with a later budbreak, and even though we are at nearly 5.0 inches of rain since late March, we are still over 3.5 inches behind 2006 in the total amount of Spring rain.

We are going to be selling some grapes for sure this year. I’m just praying that the market picks up a bit — especially for Syrah.
